So, I was looking for a trailer the other day, and noticed they are no longer available on the HF website! This made me nervous because, as an HF Hack, I always have new ideas about ways to build up a HF trailer (hopefully this section of the site will be filled with these types of projects one day). I was just hoping they didn't stop selling these awesome, cheap little trailers. So, I emailed HF and asked what was happening, and why they were no longer on the site, and I actually got a response! Oh my! Oddly enough, when I went to the parking lot sale this weekend, I asked if they were still selling them in-store, and they are. So, I guess in the stores they are still for sale, but online they aren't! I'll post an update here if I notice anything new.
Completely missed that. I've always been worried about Chinese trailer tires at places like HF and Northern. Would love to know more about the DOT controversy they've run into. I love the 4x8 folding trailer, and although the price has crept up a bit the last few years, it's still one of the biggest "bang for the buck" items at HF. I'm hoping we can get some of the folks who have hot rodded them to post some pics here at HF Hacks.
Yeah actually I tried to buy the 48”x40” trailer today in store (it was on clearance for $129), but they wouldn’t sell it to me, due to the DOT issue. A day late I guess.
Wow, a buck twenty nine would have been an outrageous steal. "Sell it to me without the tires!" Kinda makes me wonder if there was a serious accident involving an HF trailer, and perhaps a lawsuit.
Yeah believe me, I tried to get him to sell it to me. I’m assuming it was something to do with the weight ratings they have. Even only 800 lb seems like a lot to put on those 8” tires. I’m gonna make a post tomorrow and you’ll see what the trailer will be for. A little project @Okuma and I began.
Found this: HFT Employee here. The 62648 and 62647 trailer, as well as the 44144 and 44143 (I think those are the correct SKUs) tires are on callback right now. The tires are the only issue, not the trailer, but they are sold as a kit so they all got called back. It was something to do with the DOT Certification. https://www.reddit.com/r/harborfreight/comments/74g0v2/trailer/ http://www.rubbernews.com/article/2...or-freight-tools-recalls-173000-trailer-tires
Trailers are back! https://www.harborfreight.com/1195-lbs-capacity-48-in-x-96-in-heavy-duty-folding-trailer-62648.html
Of course I needed a trailer in the meantime and bought a little 4x7 from Tractor Supply. It's a neat little thing though. I really love it.
The harbor freight near me has some trailers on clearance now, might have to pick one up just to play with it.
I was talking to a Florida state official and he says that the state is not getting any money from the trailer sales so they want to make it mandatory that you pay a state registration fee when you purchase a "home built" trailer. Plus they had so many deals out there and Ironton raised their prices they would be losing money on them. I called ever store in Florida and Georgia and no one has them.
I've had my trailer for 3 years 1750lb capacity heavy duty folding trailer Built it, put 2000lbs on it and drove it non stop(except for gas) for 2100miles from WA state to the border of AR at 65 miles an hour. Had zero problems I could barely tell the trailer was behind me. I used 3x4in plywood that was too thick to let trailer fold. I used the green treated plywood and full color stain/sealer. Trailer still pulls my trash to the dumpster down the highway once a month for the past 3 years. I haven't had to fix anything I just grease the bearings every few months. Best trailer possible
I see there is a $90 off coupon for the 1195 lb HF folding trailer on their website thru April 2019. Sale price is $259.99.
